Hi all,

About two months ago my flock came down with a nasty respiratory infection - happily all but two recovered and the gals are back laying - and I'm a mite concerned about my rooster, Toby. His crow is still hoarse compared to what it was, and just last night I noticed that his wattle is hard and kind of scrunched up on his right? The other side is big and soft and hanging properly, and the colouration is a good bright red on both (I'll try and get a picture this evening!).

I don't know if this is a new thing or if it's been like this since he was sick (I've been away for college for the most part) and it's just how he'll be from now on. I would be slightly concerned it might effect blood flow, but I can't find anything online that relates to this specific issue. Any advice is much appreciated! I'll get a picture when they're in for the evening

Do you have a picture? Did he suffer any frostbite last Jan/Feb? Frostbite can cause a shriveled wattle, and certain respiratory diseases and injury may cause swelling in the wattle which might shrink later.

He's out with the girls for the day so I won't be able to catch him until tonight, but as far as I can remember he didn't have frostbite? It may just be that it's leftover from the sickness - https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...hite-residue-around-mouth-in-rooster.1657681/ - and now looking back at the photos from then there was a slight crimp to his wattle but not as much as now 🤔
