Hi all,

Today I was checking my rooster because he wasn't acting himself. I noticed his crop was bigger than usual and very firm, at first I assumed it was sour crop so I lightly massaged his crop and blood came out of his mouth, so now I have no clue what's going on. He got some antibiotic this morning (recommended by my mom who used to be a vet tech). If anyone has any ideas what I could do for him then I'd greatly appreciate the input!

Can you look inside his beak to see if he cut it on wire, a feeder or something like that? Hopefully that is where the blood is coming from.
Has he had any respiratory illness - coughing, sneezing, mucous, watery eyes, etc.?
Is it possible that he could have ingested broken glass, a nail/staple or something sharp?
Is he pooping - what does that look like?
Was he attacked by anything - look to see if he has any bruising to the body that might be the result of internal injuries.

A crop not emptying can make them very ill, most of the time antibiotics are not needed for an impacted crop unless you suspect the crop problem to be a symptom of an underlying infection.

Any photos of him you would like to share would be good. If blood is still coming out and you can't detect a cut that it's coming from, getting an xray may be your best bet to see if he has a puncture.

Let us know how he's doing.

Here’s some pics, his comb is pale compared to how he usually looks, and here’s a pic of the inside of his mouth. He also sounds crackly when he breathes sometimes, like a saliva/mucous in the throat type crackling. There was no more blood that came up this time when I picked him up so i’m hoping that’s a good sign. His poop is white and watery, i’m assuming there’s no substance to it cause he hasn’t been eating.

How much blood did you see? He does have a small nick to the beak, could that have been where the blood came from?

The crackly sound could be from the crop being full, he may have aspirated some food/liquids or it's possible he has a respiratory illness. Work on getting his crop cleared - read the following article and let us know what "type" of crop issue you think he has.

The white poop could be from being dehydrated, he needs fluids. Get him drinking before you offer anything to eat. A wet mash made of his normal feed would be good to give when he is able to eat something.

You forgot the link for the article you said they should read. Was it this one? I refer to this one often. It saved my rooster Roopecca.

Hey hi sad to hear your rooster is in trouble
I guess his crop is impacted like u say blood it maybe sometime of sharp grit or seed or foreign item like staple or nail

His poop seems abnormal to me
And white watery poop sometimes related with many respiratory disease

Also , Mucus with blood or throwing blood is INFECTIOUS LARYNGOTRACHEITIS (LT) IN CHICKENS. ... The disease is caused by a Herpes viral infection

Hope he get well

I noticed the nick on his beak, that’s not what the blood was from, it came out of his mouth and there was a few dribbles of it. He’s just sitting around and acts very lethargic. I looked at the article and it definitely sounds like it’s an impacted crop so I’ll try treating him for that.
