Rooster with Bleeding Toenails

I think our rooster caught his toenails getting off the roost this morning and pulled two of them pretty badly. They were bleeding all over the coop. They still seem to be attached to his toes. He doesn't appear to be in any pain. Is there anything I should do for him? What would you experts do if he was yours?

Welcome to BYC. I would clean up the wound and but antiobiotic ointment without "caine" in it. Maybe try to wrap it up or something or seperate him until it heals to keep it from getting infected. I would put him in a dog crate if it was me.

OK! Thanks! We soaked his foot in warm water to wash off all the yuck, and then soaked it in colloidal silver. He snapped off his toenail right in the middle and it is the actual toenail that is bleeding (boy those bleed A LOT!), not his toes. We applied some first aid cream and wrapped it up the best we could. He is in the chick brooder pen with his favorite pullet, but he is still squawking his head off and not happy one little bit. How long do toenails take to heal??? And if being separated from his girls makes him so very unhappy, would you continue to keep him out, or put him back to alleviate his stress? Thanks again! We are total chicken newbies and they are more pets than poultry!

You can also dip his toe in flour to staunch the bleeding.

Cornstarch works well too to stop bleeding.
