Rooster with chicks- good idea?

Hi y’all!

I have my 19 chicks outside in a tractor that is in my chicken run. I have a Bielefelder rooster from that flock that is very gentle and I put him in with the chicks. Is this a good idea? The rooster is 6 months old and the chicks are 6 weeks old.

It isn't necessarily a bad idea. It depends on the individual bird and the breed.
I've had young cockerels protect and even 'mother' chicks.

Some males are very good daddies, some aren't.

I am running my mama and her four 6 week old chicks with the flock since the first week. I just keep an eye on the rooster who is young - 21 weeks - but he seems to be ok with them.

Every bird is different...
