Rooster with worms around his vent

You can trim the feathers with a small pair of scissors. As long as they are not newly growing feathers, they are fine to trim. New feathers, that are still in the shaft have a blood supply until they are fully grown and can bleed if cut then. Mature feathers won't bleed and it does not hurt at all. Many people trim vent feathers on birds that have chronically dirty butt feathers. The dark area may be bruising. How is he feeling/acting?

Thank you for the info, I'll double check and see if I can't trim at least the poopy feathers. I think you're right about the bruising. It's not as dark as it was Wednesday. The scabs around his vent are slowly healing too. And the other affected areas around his butt seem to be improving. :D He seems to be feeling and acting normal again. Back to his ol' aggressive self!
