My Jersey Giant rooster is relatively "quiet". Or at least I thought he was until I started hearing crowing from far away. My other Evil Rooster used to crow whenever he darn well pleased, including when I was standing right in front of him.

My other guy won't crow in front of me. I was only able to catch him crowing one time by sneaking around the corner of the garage and caught him in the act. Now I hear him when I am in other parts of the yard or when he is still in the coop in the mornings....but if he sees me he will. not. crow.

I take that as a good sign? That he is not crowing in my face like the evil rooster did? Is he not crowing because I am "top Rooster" in this flock?

Thats funny. Mine crows whenever he sees me!

I am usually up and out before he is, but when I come home from work, he lets me know real quick that hes over there past the garden waiting on me to let him out of the run!

Mine crow at me everyday when I get home..it's the funniest thing to see 13 roosters all trying to get my attention first...

Mine still crows plenty....just only when I am not in sight. I can hear him crowing from out back behind the garage. But if I come around the corner, he is quiet as a mouse.

Maybe he needs to get used to you a little bit more? Also the sneaking is not a good idea of wacthing the birds, it may give them a predator feeling you know..?!

IMO, it's a very good sign. He considers you the alpha and he has a healthy respect for you. He's afraid of the butt whooping you, as the alpha, would give him if he crows in your presence.
That's not to say that a roo that crows in front of you is bad or aggressive, only that yours is very respectful and just a tad bit afraid and in my book, that's a good thing.

All I mean by sneaking is that I came around the corner of the garage mid-crow, trying to figure out who was making that godawful dinosaur-esque call. I don't sneak up on them normally. I walk right through the flock and by golly does that rooster get out of my way
