I don't think he's splash, I think he's blue. I've had barred splash cockerels and the hackles and saddle feathers aren't near this dark. Plus, if one parent was a barred Rock, IIRC you can't get splash from a black parent, only blue.

I don't have any pics of my splash barred birds, and apparently no pics of mature blue barred males, just a few baby pics....





top pic is a barred sex link blue cockerel, bottom is cockerel in the back, pullet in the front.

With blue, the barring seems to be inhibited to the sex feathers in heterozygous males. the chest, belly, etc are solid. I think it must be a combination of the blue and the single barring gene. I'll have to breed some homozygous/double barred blue males to see how they turn out---there's yet another project for the breeding pens! My honey's going to be busy come spring, building enough pens for all my desired projects
