Rooster?

I wasn't keen on having a male either but then I got one by accident and then I decided to try my hand at hatching. A friend gave me a styrofoam incubator to use. Now I'm addicted and have hatched out hundreds of chicks over the years. Now I breed for show/exhibition.

Hmmm...I’m just nervous about his noise & I haven’t read up at all on roosters!

Your Egger cockerel will be quite stunning after his first full molt.
Some of the boys can become a handful.

Here is a great article by @BantyChooks on how to interact with cockerels:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/a-viewpoint-on-raising-cockerels.74690/
I highly recommend both reading the article and giving it a try raising your cockerel.
I also agree with @Chick-N-Fun that I would never have a flock without a rooster.
My boy is still quite young but he is coming along very nicely and I think he's awesome.

Your roo is beautiful. Looks kinda like one of mine. He'll be a pretty one.

My roo one time saved my hen from a predator and always warns his girls when there are birds flying overhead - whether it's crows, geese, or a lone hawk. Roosters are the best. My roos crow when there are other roos to crow with, but just one doesn't crow as much. It honestly depends on the roo.

:welcome :frow I agree male. If they were hatchery chicks either purchased from a hatchery or a feed/farm store, the hatcheries have a 90% guarantee of all females and if they sent extra chicks they were probably males (packing peanuts).
I want to call my rooster a packing peanut now :lau. Truth is, I was on a waiting list for mine because of the breed I wanted and I hate not having a rooster. It depends on your place, needs and bylaws, though. If you are permitted to keep him, and since he is already there, you could just give him a whirl. You can always get rid of him if he does not work out.

I have a couple chicken knowledged friends who aren’t sure about this chicken! It’s supposed to be an Easter egger pullet. They’re saying “no spurs or crown”. But he’s only 16 weeks old. Doesn’t that make a difference?
