Rooster?

Thank you. So we have 12 chickens total. Now we realize we have 2 roosters and 10 hens, is it OK to have more than one rooster or should we only have one. This is our first year with chickens

Mm...I say keep one, the LB. They are docile and good to the girls. RIRs are often quite aggressive.

My 15 week old Ameraucana rooster crows off & on all day, but my 13 week old Silkie has yet to crow nor has my 11 week old CQ!

Ok thanks, the Rhode island, Ben, has been very aggressive towards us and pecked at us several times.

OH! He looks EXACTLY like my in-town rooster, Marion (formerly Rosemary).

He never crowed or acted rooster-ish until almost a week after I'd processed "The Red Boys" (my Ideal packing peanuts), and lived up the to Brahma reputation for laid-back roosters.

P.S. If you keep him be prepared for the fact that Brahma roosters are HUGE. Marion, just an ordinary hatchery bird, was 2 feet tall.

I had to place certain equipment like nipple waterers for him and put in blocks for the smaller breed hens to stand on. He's also the reason why we're not going to build a raised coop only 18" off the ground again.

IMO, Brahmas are majestic yard dinosaurs.

It's fine to have more than 1 roo. I have 4. Three grew up together so they are like the three musketeers and are very tame.
