What are the tell tell signs? If you don’t mind teaching me.

I forgot to say: Welcome to BYC! Glad to have you with us.

Here’s how you can tell:

The face is circled: Some hens may have a large comb and wattle however this is quite large and typically more uncommon for hens. (depending on the breed) but roosters usually get them red and big way before the hens do.

The space near the neck is circled: Those are hackle feathers, hens have them, but they are blunt and round and much less noticeable. Roosters have them sharp, pointy, and very obvious compared to hens. If you place your finger behind the hackle feathers the point is very noticeable

The space near the tail is circled: Those are a overflow of saddle feathers, very pointy. Selective to roos.

The space on the tip of the tail is circled: Those are sickle feathers, they are the droopy feathers you see in the tails of roosters. There often aren’t many on the tail. Selective to roos.

His legs should become red and he should gain some good spurs somewhat soon.

No worries. I recommend posting on craigslist and on your state thread, posting what state your located in can be useful to determine future things with your chickens like the climate, temp, etc. Click your username in the top right corner, hit account details, and scroll til you see location.
