I went out this morning to let the gang out and saw the back part of my roosters comb and a few tips were black, and I mean black as night. At first I think frostbite but it's been low 50s to mid 60s here at night. Well after going to get my net, because he's too good to be held by me, some of his comb turned back to normal. Within the time of me first noticing it and letting him back on his lecherous way, (maybe 5 minutes), his comb was back to normal. Thinking maybe it's mites or something I checked him for critters but saw nothing. I raked through the coop bedding, because even though there's multiple roosts all my chickens pile on top of each other in a corner of the coop. Nothing there either. The coop has good ventilation and they've been through below freezing temps before and have done fine. He's eating, drinking, and acting normal. I'll keep an eye on him just in case he's sick.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before.

Changes in comb color can be hormonal, excitement, changes in blood pressure, or several other things.

Unless accompanied by oozing, lethargy, weakness, or anything else unusual, I'd just keep an eye on him. :)

I've seen my rooster's comb go purple before.

Hahaha. "Lecherous way."
