Obviously this isn’t frostbite....I have four Turken roosters and today I noticed that the ends of their combs were turning purple. It’s just the turkens. No one else. My Turken hen is fine, my other roosters are fine. It’s just the four Turken roosters. None of them are acting sickly, I’ve seen no alarming behavior and I have yet to see any change in poo. They’re all eating, drinking and being their feisty little selves. I’ve heard this is a sign of disease but it’s just strange that all four, two of which are around a year old and the other two are around five months, had this happen at the same time. I don’t have pictures I didn’t have my phone, but it was a purpley color at the back end of the comb. I’ll also add that they all have very large straight combs. If this is a disease I want to take care of it right away.

I see this with my BO cockerel. When I first saw it, everything I saw online said frostbite. Well, not at 90 degrees. Yes, it comes and goes, it's out at the points and more toward the back of the comb. Really curious about this!

That’s how it was. Just at the end of the comb.
purple comb is lack of oxygen usually heart issues
But with just these four birds? At the same time? And gone in a couple days? It just seemed strange that it was just the four NN roosters.

Purple discoloration near the end of the comb is a normal occurrence with large-combed breeds, especially in the heat. If they appear to be acting fine, I'd leave them.
Okay. I’d just never had this happen before. But this is only my second summer with these turkens so I’m still green with the breed.

This thread was really helpful. It has been around 98 at the lowest in the day and usually in the 100s this week. My chickens have been managing well but I noticed throughout the day my newest rooster has been having a purple tint on the back of his comb and also at his three back points. The tint comes and goes throughout the day, I fed him watermelon and it went away, an hour later it was back, fed him some blue berries and it went away again. I freshened up his water and added another water source with some rooster booster.

I figure it is just slight dehydration or heat issues. He is my only rooster with a large comb so all this makes sense to me. Always nice to get confirmation from other chicken owners. I also found nothing but info about "frostbite" when I looked up "rooster purple comb".
