roosters crow

We've been discussing this in the raising baby chicks category. It may depend on the breed and the individual rooster apparently. My top cockerel is trying his voice out at 7 weeks, but it definitely sounds strange at this point. My other still hasn't tried at all.

Really? I had a couple of my babies start trying to at only a couple of weeks. It sounded like a high pitched scream and it scared me until I realized they were little boys, and probably trying to crow.

I have no idea but our brooder with five week old black sex link chicks has some pretty funky noises coming out of it. I had to reassure DH that our cat was not being tortured.

My RIR cockerel ( Susie Q,) (we will change his name) crowed for the first time on Memorial Day. He is 9 weeks. It will be a Memorial Day to remember. LOL

I've wondered the same thing. Mostly I just wanted to know how long before the neighbors start shooting at me. I have ten two-week-old blue Orpingtons, and it's probable that five of those are rooster.

Our roosters have been starting to crow the last couple of weeks and they are 16 weeks old. Though it doesn't sound like a real crow yet, they are trying.
