I am fairly new at raising chickens. I posted pictures of my four roosters when they were younger and found out they were roosters. I have one barred rock that crows all the time. He is the leader of the flock. Is that the reason none of the other roosters crow or try to mount the hens? If there is a dominant rooster do they all follow him.? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

yepp, sounds like you lucked out! Either the other 3 need a little more time, or they all bow to him. If they don't there will be some big fights. What's more fun than waking up to a 5 am rooster call? Waking up to a 5 am rooster crow off that ends in a huge fight of course!!! One of our poor roosters doesn't have any tail feathers left... We generally only keep 1 to ten hens. But all of our meat birds came into adulthood 7 days before butcher day...so we've had a fun week with about 22 roosters in one pen

Head rooster will be the only one mating and doing most of the rooster things unless you have enough hens that they can split the flock (head rooster will probably have the best girls) roosters are crazy paranoid about their girls being taken from them, so if you start to notice problems between the roos...watch out for their safety AND your own! They may decide you are also a threat to their girls and attack you if they have been fighting (and sometimes even if they haven't.)

Might be.
How old are they all?

They're only babies at this age. The others will get the hormones flowing in the next few months.

About 12 weeks.

Yep...then look out!!

Is there a reason you want 4 roosters?
Unless you plan on eating them, I'd get rid of them sooner rather than later.
I eat extra cockerels, they are delicious on the grill before 15-16 weeks...and then pressure cooking the grilled bones make a great stock.

Thanks for the info. I don't want 4 roosters but its hard for me to eat pets Ive raised from chicks. I think I found someone who wants them so I guess sooner rather than later.
