Ain't love Grand! I have 5 hens and a male duck who is in love with only 1 of them. He has broken off a great deal of her neck feathers. I'm worried about her. There are chicken saddles but mine needs something around her neck to keep her from becoming a "naked neck" chicken. Yes, I could isolate one of them until her feathers grow back but it'll just start over again. So, what can be done besides getting rid of my drake?

You bet'cha. You read correctly - 5 hens and 1 drake. He's all that I have left of my ducks. They were all raised together and thinks he's a chicken. As much as I have tried, they all were afraid of the water. So, why is it dangerous? Lots of people have both together.

This is an unhealthy situation for your hen and could lead to her being physically injured, suffer an infection from him mating her which could kill her or stress her to the point that she becomes vulnerable to other illnesses and diseases. He will certainly be making her life a misery at the very least, so you really would be well advised to separate them.

There is a strong possibility that you will not have to put the sock around her neck if his penis causes her to prolapse. Then you can end her suffering and euthanize her. Drakes have penises - roosters do not. A chicken hen's anatomy is not made for the insertion of objects. Allowing this to continue is animal abuse plain and simple. It's not humorous.

What I really would like to do is put a sock around her neck so he can't break her feathers off.
He's going to do a lot more damage to her than break off her neck feathers if you don't remove him from the chicken pen! He can kill chickens by mating them.
Can't you move him to a "no chicken" pen and get him some duck hens?
