It doesn’t seem to be affecting him, and there are no bumps or scaly skin that we can see. He won’t let us catch him, and stay about 3 feet away at all times, so these are the best pictures I could get. Any idea what this could be? The weather has been cooling down, but hasn’t been cold. It’s 50-mid 60s during the day, and hasn’t been below 40 at night. He’s about 30 weeks old.

Gosh they do look red don't they. I think you are going to have to catch him to do a proper examination. Have 2 of you and go down at night when it is fully dark. DH ordered me a headtorch cheaply from ebay that has a red setting which is great for not disturbing them too much. If you can get a closer pic once you do that then I'm sure people will be able to help more.

A red rash on feet and shanks of a cockerel (ie a male chicken under a year old) is usually associated with a flush of hormones and is normal but not all males will exhibit it. A close up inspection and photo would help confirm that's all it is. Chickens that are not tame can easily be picked off the roost at night when an examination or treatment is necessary.

This happens to my chickens. It happens to my younger chickens more often. I notice it when it is wet outside, when my chickens have been out for 2-3 hours, or more. Has it rained or is it wet outside the coop. When the chickens walk through the wet grass, they can get their legs all wet, and if it is windy, and it's around 40-50 degrease it happens. But in might be something completely different
