That helps thank you I have mixed group and my only Roos are silkies. Just diagnosed

They are smaller than the girls so may not be too aggressive. The have on silkie pullet. Do Roos go after any girls or just the ones thier size. I know size of the birds is a thing but wondering if I should keep them or find homes. (Still have a lot to learn in Arizona)

I have a Blue Australorp cockerel that is absolutely fantastic... so far...i just hope he keeps it up. I would definitely recommend an Australorp

I have had the unfortunate luck of having 17 roosters out of the 34 chickens I have ever had (pretty bad odds). Majority of the roosters have been barred rocks. I will say out of all the chickens I have had the barred rocks have been hands down the most curious and friendly Male or Female...that being said I have had really bad BR roosters and really good BR roosters.

I currently have 10 chickens outside (5 babies inside under quarantine :{ ) Of the ten 6 are girls four are boys...bad mix (which is why I got the baby girls). I have one bantam unknown breed, a welsummer, and two barred rock roosters. I had 11 BR roosters and some were easy to pick off but as the number lowered it has been harder and harder. I know I have to get rid of at least one more but I can't decide because they are both actually incredibly sweet...to humans. They both mate the hens. I have never seen the bantam roo or the Welsummer mate or fight anyone. The two BR's fight each other only when free ranging (kinda looks more like playing like when they were little as there is no damage done). The two BR's even sleep on the roost next to each other. They both let me pet/pick them up; while the Welsummer and the Bantam run from me....IDK..I know at least one BR will have to go but I still haven't decided who at this point.
As far as human friendly I have to say the BR...
As far as hen friendly I have to say the Welsummer
As far as predators..The BR's and the Bantam let out screeches of warning while the Welsummer seems kinda oblivious

17/34=50%. Those are decent odds IMO. Until I started experimenting with egg shaped gender selection, I was consistently hatching 60% males. When I started selecting eggs based on shape, I started getting 60% females, 40% males. Sounds hocus pocus, but it has been a consistent result for me. You can check my survey thread on it by clicking the thread title in my signature lines.

Slightly off topic, but everyone, please check your results. I've noticed certain girls give me more girls than others. (My beloved Easter eggers produce mostly boys.

) Selecting for girl eggs I got three girls out of ten and 7 out of 17. Next year I might buy a few pullets to add to the flock. (Or maybe hatch the pointy eggs but don't get many of them.
However I'm getting beautiful, friendly docile cockerels who can be terrific additions as flock roosters.
