I was given 6 chicks about a month ago - they are around 10 or 12 weeks old (I believe). Almost immediately we noticed large red combs growing, but no waddles. Lots of chest bumping. Lots of attempts at crowing. The ones I suspect of being roosters have large, smooth, red combs. The ones I suspect as hens have bumpier smaller, but still red combs.
They are all mixed breeds, red laced wyandotte, easter egger, and I'm not sure what else. The first 3 photos I think are a hen. Next 3 photos are of 2 others I think are hens. The next 3 photos I am pretty sure is a rooster. Last 2 of an all black one - same comb as the obvious rooster, that I think it's also a roo.
Am I wrong in my thinking?
Thanks!
Kathy
