roosters rpping up the hens back during mating

my roosters have torn the backs off my hens and half there wing when they mate with them. is there anyway to stop this?

well weasels got one hen. foxes got 4 and raccoons got 2 so my Raito is deffentally off. where can you get saddles?

I've had the same thing happen. My rooster was young and only would mate with one hen. I was told he was learning the ropes so to speak.

I've one rooster to five hens right now and it's not enough. Awaiting our pullets to grow up to add more. You may want to put your spare roosters in a bachelor pad.

Do a search for hen saddles here. You'll see it's something you could make quite easily.

I made some out of old pant leg and strechy string. worked great. but I have 16 hens that will be ready in 5 months

Your rooster isn't necessarily mean, he is just trying to stay on the hen. Damage to a hen's back is a problem. Here is a source for a saddle. If you've also got predators, check your birds every day and make a head count! They are depending on you to protect them.

we had one roo to 16 hens and it still wasn't enough.... their backs were just tore up. I ended up getting rid of the Roo cuz he was just to amorous for my girls.... I hated what they looked like. Yours might just be too much for them.

I have trimmed try roosters nails and filed them down a smudge and the hens backs grew back and looked a lot better i have 3 hens to 1 roo

my rooster is almost three times the size of a full grown rr hen and my other one is about twice the size. they take great care of the hens till they mate with them haha. I always have people around looking out for them. odd thing is a animal will end up getting them when you turn your back on them for a minute and we actually had a raccoon climb the fence and pick the lock on one of the doors.
