Last night our banny roosters spur was bleeding alot and was 3/4 detached so we removed it completly and placed flour on wound and wrapped it with gause... It stopped bleeding and have kept him inside and i brought him to work today to make sure he is eating and drinking... My question is what should i do as far as giving him some meds or something so he doesnt get infection. He is drinking water but has barely ate anything been researching all day and couldnt find much on total spur removal... Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Poor baby, he's adorable. One of my hens lost a toe a couple weeks ago, and I just put pressure on it to stop the bleeding, then used Blu-Kote (that's a blue antifungal, anti-bacterial spray). Neosporin and other OTC antibiotic stuff is good too. Is there any other damage to the leg? The spurs should grow back, I think.

My silkies get scrambled eggs with veggies when they're sick, and Rooster Booster vitamins in their water. Does he have a favorite food? He may just be stressed because he's away from the flock or in pain. He should be fine eating and you can probably return him to the flock soon.

People actually do remove their rooster's spurs: https://cs-tf.com/how-to-remove-rooster-spurs/#:~:text=Your rooster's spurs would most, time to consult your vet.

Sounds like you're doing great so far, and I wish him a quick recovery!

Thank you he seems to be in pain and i have noticed his nose is runny.. he does not walk but will stand. He keeps his eyes closed most of the day as if he is sleeping... It is supposed to get real cold here soon i do have heat lamps in the coop but dont want him to get picked on by the other chickens he acted last night as if he was ready to die before i noticed his spur... He was on the ground in the corner with his head hanging down.. he seems to be doing better but dont want him to just give up on us.. he is my sons favorite rooster.

Do you have photos of the injury?
Do you know how he got knocked his spur off, was he fighting?

Just knocking a spur off should not be that traumatic, they might be a bit quiet, it can be painful, but he should be able to walk, move around and be eating drinking. Standing only ,keeping the eyes closed, sleeping along with mucous from the nostrils, I would look him over better. See if there's more injuries, check for lice/mites, that his crop is emptying, etc.

Have you added any new birds recently or do you have a history of respiratory illness within your flock?

Thanks for your reply... Yes he is standing/ sitting with eyes closed and some snotty fluid kimd of coming out of his nose sometimes and sounds like he has gunk in his sinus.... A few little bugs but not many. eating and drinking somewhat but not much today it is about 36 hrs since we found the injury i think he lost alot of blood but we got it stopped... I do not have a before pic when spur was hanging on by very little but i will post a pic... It looks good no sign of infection that ican tell we had a vet student look at him and she didnt see anything else wrong...i figured by now he would be getting more like his old self... Any other options or if something else might be wrong please let me know... His crowp is empty now..he honestly looks like he could give up at any minute and pass... Looks very sleepy/ lethargic i thought about giving him electrolytes.i u covered it lastnight to check on it and let it beeath

No new birds in the flock. There have been sparrows in the coop on cold days.. i have him isolated from the rest of the flock incase he is sick.

I think he got it caugt in our deck slats

Can you get some photos of both his legs and feet?

Is his crop emptying overnight?
The mucous and sounding snotty is concerning. Sounds like he has a respiratory illness unless you find something else like lesions or canker inside the beak. For respiratory illness you can try giving an antibiotic like Tylan or Tylosin to see if that helps.

He has a few little bugs? Do you mean he has lice or mites on him that you can see? If he does, then you need to treat him to get rid of them. You can find Permethrin based poultry spray or dust at stores like TSC. Treat him and the housing in 7 day intervals.

If you have electrolytes on hand, then I would start those.
