Roosters spur bleededing and removed lastnight

Candy like pixie stix or fun dip (powder) is even better cause it’s mostly dextrose and absorbs into the bloodstream faster.

My friend lost a hen to lice/mites. She had no clue there was a problem. The hen seemed fine but they overwhelmed the hens' immune system and she died a short time after exhibiting any illness symptoms. You need to make sure you don't have a pest problem. Check well around the back-end.

I sprinkle DE in nest boxes, sprinkled on the floor after cleaning out old shavings and before adding new, and sprinkle it on perches as a preventative.

Thanks im going to store to get some soon... Going to inspect the rest of the flock soon... I think he lost to much blood and the few mites or lice did him in...thanks everybody for all the help and the knowledge to react quicker next time something like this happens... 4 years of chickens and nothing like this has happened.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. We had to dispatch a chicken yesterday with wry neck. No outlying symptoms or hints there was a problem. We just saw her prostrate on the floor with her head twisted totally back when we went in to feed them in the AM.

We are guessing at possible cures at this point by changing feed for possible vitamin deficiency and treating the rest of the flock for worms.
This is my 2nd year raising chickens and I've never experienced any of this so I rely on these forum boards to help. In fact, right now I'm looking for suggestions for worming medicine that you don't have to discard the eggs. We sell them.
(((hugs)))

Thanks for your reply... Yes he is standing/ sitting with eyes closed and some snotty fluid kimd of coming out of his nose sometimes and sounds like he has gunk in his sinus.... A few little bugs but not many. eating and drinking somewhat but not much today it is about 36 hrs since we found the injury i think he lost alot of blood but we got it stopped... I do not have a before pic when spur was hanging on by very little but i will post a pic... It looks good no sign of infection that ican tell we had a vet student look at him and she didnt see anything else wrong...i figured by now he would be getting more like his old self... Any other options or if something else might be wrong please let me know... His crowp is empty now..he honestly looks like he could give up at any minute and pass... Looks very sleepy/ lethargic i thought about giving him electrolytes.i u covered it lastnight to check on it and let it beeath
I am SO SORRY! I would get Amoxcillin fast! You can get it from the vet. My cockerel was dying and couldn't stand up, but my avian vet recommended this and I fed him by syringe and within 2 days he was fine. There is clearly an infection if he has stuff coming out of his nose/beak. Hope you can bring him round! You can also use the syringe to give him some fluid.
