Some in this forum have suggested shooting an unruly rooster with a water gun as a behavior management technique.

What do you all think of this method? Has it worked for you or merely infuriated your roo?

Also, could a rooster get sick from this if you accidentally shot him in the eye? Couldn't it theoretically cause an eye infection or something? Or give him the chills?

Any worst-case scenarios to share?

A little water won't hurt him, but try to aim for the body, not the face. I've spoken to some members here who used this method on aggressive chickens and it really worked.

Depending on your water gun, you could cause eye damage if aiming for the face. A super soaker could definitely blind a chicken.

Oooh, now that's a thought! Thanks for the heads up!

Well, I tried out the new hot pink water gun, since the roo disliked the hot orange colored one.

The only thing I see it doing is causing him to transfer his aggression from me to the water gun? He tries to attack it, and it's cheap plastic, so I'm afraid he will peck a big hole in it and all the water will drain out of it, leaving me defenseless? HAHA

He's a very smart boy, with such a good imagination! He thinks the Pink Water Gun is a Beastie. It is hot today, and I think he rather enjoyed the cool water on his back. LOL

If only I'd know what I was getting into when I rescued the cute little chick from his StepMama who was trying to peck him to death. She seemed to sense his unruliness from the minute he hatched, but I'm not as smart as she is. But how I love him, anyway! He sure keeps me on my toes and life interesting!

Oh, and I bought my water gun at the dollar store. Maybe it's not as powerful as the kind people have used effectively with roosters? Frankly, though, I'm afraid of those Super Soaker things, if they can put an eye out. That would be just my luck. My rooster knows I am a pacifist. He can just sense it!
