I have heard horror stories and have seen what a few roosters have done to hens!

I might have some mixed in with my bantams when they come! (with pullet Americanas)

do I give them away or how many do I keep?

is there away to keep them calm?

or can you keep away from hens?

I am so confused

I don't know if I can help. I have two Roos and my poor girls back are so bare! But the funny thing is the Roos tend to let the girls have all the treats first. My one Buff Brahma Roo will take the bread from my hand and he really wants to eat it himself but he gives it to the first hen that approaches him. My girls are always found with the Roos so I guess they love them!!!!

that is what I don't want (bear backs) on my girls!

I don't mind maybe 1 (I will have to watch the eggs though)

and do they amte at certain times?

how many do you have?

I orignally did not want a rooster AT ALL, but now i have two. Silver is head honcho & although he'll flog me once in awhile I really dont mind having him. Now that I have two i want to keep both of them! dont know if that'll work out or not, but i love their little attitudes & they're so flashy. My hens dont have wear marks from him, except my GL wyandotte, she has a little spot on the back of her head & thats it. I plan on keeping my roo's spurs ground down a bit so he isn't stabbing the girls in the back.

plus theres nothing funnier than seeing him do his little roundup dance to a hen!!
