Hi!
I have the most loveliest Croad Langshan rooster! He is gentle to his girl friends and to humans. He even has a little baby boy too! I have had another rooster with him before and he was really good. So I want to get another roo. It's just I don't know what breed! Any ideas. I was thinking a Silver laced Wyandotte!:-)

Hello!
400

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to joined the BYC family. That breed of chicken is simply gorgeous. But I've never had a rooster of that breed either. So as far as temperament. I'm sorry, I can't help you.

It's great that you have such a wonderful rooster - do you really need another one? I'm just wondering if another breed will be aggressive and cause trouble.

We get so many complaints about aggressive roosters on this thread - either brutalizing hens and/or attacking humans. II always tell folks there is NEVER a good reason to keep a BAD roo.

It's such a blessing that you have a really good rooster - I'd worry about upsetting the apple cart.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I too agree with drumstick diva on do really need to upset the apple cart. Although you have a pleasant roo now any other you introduce could cause problems if the new one is not as placid as yours. I have 2 Roos but I have to have them completely seperate with their own girls. I even had to change my whole chicken set up as one of them would do all he could to escape and attack the other. He too is super friendly with us and good with his girls but when I got my new one it was all out attack for the new one.

Good luck with your decision and enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC!

It's nice you've had such good luck with your current rooster (and those are beautiful ones). I'm wondering how many pullets you have and if the flock could support another roo? The recommended ratio of roos to hens is 1 roo per 8-10 hens. If you don't have that many females, the roos may "overwork" the females causing stress and health issues.

Hope you're enjoying your birds and if you have additional questions, feel free to ask.

Hello and welcome to BYC! IMO I wouldn't get another rooster unless you have enough hens. I've always been told at least 8-10 hens per roo. If things are going peaceful as is I wouldn't upset it. Even the nicest roosters are very protective of their flock. If you decide to then it may be a good idea to keep them seperate. Its just my opinion...someone may know better than me. This site is definately worth being on to get awesome answers. :)
