Roosting in the Nest Boxes: How do I stop these crazy brds?

@Hillbilly:
It is not a perfect world. Some times the chickens win. Despite our best efforts. They may be a kin to teenagers it could be just a phase they are going through, I have one or two chickens that sleep in their nest boxes I do not like it but I make cleaning them as easy for me as possible.
I would get some green scrubers to clean your eggs and maybe prayer might help.

Nest boxes
In my nest boxes I fold a feed bag to fit (nest boxes are 1 ft³). When a bag gets soiled; fold a new one; pop out the soiled; pop in the new. In the winter frozen poop just peels of the bag or shakes off with a bit of a flex.

Easy Peasy.

Oh those hens... I built a bigger and better coop this year, but kept the same nest boxes from the old coop. Same 2x4 roosts, just a couple of more, same flock. And two of the ladies have decided they will now only roost in the nest boxes. Temperature does not matter. I thought they were doing it to get away from my troublesome roo number two, who was, admittedly, a butthead.

Have tried all of the same things, moved them out of the boxes and onto the coop, blocked off the boxes, chased them out of the boxes, added a new set of boxes in case they had issues with the old ones. And dealt with those nasty poo eggs.

It looks like the hens are going to win this one. I have just included replacing the straw in the nest boxes as part of my daily coop routine

LOL! Honestly? I'd remove the nest boxes and let them lay on straw on the floor, for a while. Guess it depends a lot on your setup, though. I have a large dirt floor coop with lots of straw and pine shavings on the floor, so they can find corners to lay in.
