Bought 2 (around 3 month old) chickens to add to our flock after losing two of our girls. They are currently in our smaller coop while they adjust. Problem is, they came from a coop full of chickens and I doubt they ever had roosting room. They won't roost on the roosting bars in the coop. They lay on the house floor which normally wouldn't bother me but they lay right at the edge and stick their heads out into the night air. They are protected by wire. Is there a way to teach them to roost on the bars?

Heads out the pop door?

Can you post a pic of your coop inside and out?
We may be able to see an issue that you have not noticed.

They may not be able to see in the coop at roosting time.
And sometimes younger birds, in a new place, feel safer on the ground.

Here they are and that's where they sleep. With their little heads poking out. We've tried placing them on the roosting bars and they just hop down

Well, it doesn't look like there's much room to go anyplace else<shrugs>

Inside the house there are two long roosting bars with plenty of room that our 6 older chickens used for months. These chickens just seem to not have the urge to roost

Like @CTKen said keep putting them on the roost they will get the hang of it.I got two new pullets a while ago and stupid me thought they would go in the coop nope...They went in the tree there went me to go get the rake and ladder

Do they spend time on roosts during the day?
How long have you had them?

Put 'em on the roost....well after dark...if you can reach it.
Pic of inside of coop tomorrow please.
