Roosting on top of coop

Birds tend to want to roost at the highest part of any enclosure, having the instinct to want to avoid predators and live.

Snakes, raccoons, cats, can get through small gaps and . Raccoonespecially y love to grab chickens by the head, and pull.

The roost you have is a smallish branch that is at one of the lowest points in the coop.
Remember too that fumes and heat and moisture can travel to the high points of the coop, so they need ventilation - not direct wind - but a way for air to escape and move around.
