My chicks are 9 weeks now and have been in their coop for 4 weeks. The go in at night from their run perfectly, but they oddly ALL (7) crowd onto a very small section of the roosting pole. Usually one or two chicks get stuck under the others sitting on the poop board. I'm not sure if they stay like that all night but the ruckus they make getting settled in is crazy. Any clue as to why they do this?

I have encountered this as well, odd isn't it? I have 6, 10 week olds, and they squish together in their "preferred spot" on the roosting bar, sometimes one is under them on the poop board because she really wAnts to also get up there and squeeze between the other girls. They have 7 -8 ft of roosting space all at the same level! They are just being chickens! I enjoy all of their quirky behaviors.

Mine slept in a dog pile by the door till they were about 10weeks old. They are about 13 weeks now and sleep on their roost. Last night I noticed it took 2 a while to jump up its 3' or so I may put a ramp up.

That "mass of feathers" thing you're seeing is perfectly normal - and totally amusing! They've huddled together in the brooder and then on the floor of the coop or run so long that the glue holding them together hasn't quite worn off yet!

Yep, sounds like my coop, they're just being chickens.
