I have 12 5 month old bantams. 4 each of Bramahas, Cochins and NH Reds. I built a roost with droppings board about 4 feet off the floor, but they don't use it and still huddle in the corner by the door at night. Any ideas to get them to roost? Thanks.

Sometimes people place them on roosts every night for a while, maybe a week or two, to teach them. I wonder though, if they are huddled by the door, whether they have enough ventilation, or are they looking for fresh air. I've never had to teach a chicken to roost but then my coop is almost open air, LOTS of fresh air.

I have the same problem, I got my chickens 6 weeks ago (they are 15 months old) and they won't roost, they sleep in the nestboxes...I wondered if the farm I got them from never had roosts for them.
I tried catching one to put on the roost at night, but they are too fast and I don't want to freak them out, so I leave them to sleep in the nestboxes if thats what they prefer.

*hugs* Heather x
