Roosting question

I have a question. The picture attached is a side view. The squares are the roosting perches.

Would this work for roosting perches? Basically, instead of a “ladder step” type layout of roosting bars (Where they would go up in a straight diagonal line), could I take them “back and forth” to go up a wall? Would that work ok?

Hmm... any particular reason for this? Like I could maybe see doing it like this if for some reason roosts were located in center of a coop, instead of along walls, but that would be an unconventional design choice.

@rosemarythyme , see my attached floor plan. Hopefully this is clear. Because of door layout, I was hoping to keep the roosting area in that 32” wall area in the top right close to the run area. The coop is right at 6’ high.

The “boxes” along the upper and lower walls are windows (except for the two doors noted).

I’m totally open to adjusting the layout inside the coop. Let me know if anyone has a better idea of layout.

How many chickens (max) do you plan on getting? Trying to plan the roosts mathematically. Any opposition to a more traditional ladder (so low, mid, high) or all same height roosts?

@rosemarythyme Let’s say 8 chickens max. From floor space to ventilation, I think that’s the max.

No, I’m not opposed to anything. I’m new to this so this layout is what made sense in my head. I’m totally fine with changing anything layout wise inside the coop. (The doors and windows are already there obviously).

So 3 bars sounds about right if you want them in that space. But main shortcoming of that space (thanks for putting #s on everything!) is that you have 32" of depth to work with, and ideally you'd want a minimum of12" between roost to wall, and roost to roost, so one bar is going to end up right next to that doorway...

Assuming that roosts and nests can be moved around, I'd consider doing something like this:
- 1 long roost across the back 8' wall
- move nests to where food/water currently are (that also gives you option of outside access if you want it)
- move food and water to the storage shed wall
