the log was the training roost for the silkies. When it was in the corner, the 2 leghorns would sit on it. it is super tiny, so i did move it. According to the above posts, the pics and comments, the chickens seem to like the corner/wall. So i readjusted the roosts. The bigger girls are using the roost more. Thank you so much for that info. I won't change it again. I don't mind the basket-and i prefer that to the silkies sitting in the poop (as you said, there is always a day when you can't clean) They are not attached roosts, but they are stable. But that is a good point. i will check on it to make sure it is even and does not wobble. And it is good to know that it is ok to let them sleep on the floor (ick, poop)l Thanks for all info and thoughts.
so the question remains, does the head hen like to be on a higher roost or just chooses where to sleep where she wants?
