Roosting Space

What would the recommended roosting space be for seven hens? I doubt one five foot long roost would work, right?

No it is probaly just a little to small. Id recomend at least 10 to 12 inches per bird for large fowl.

I allow at least a foot a bird, more if I have the space and they still fight over a small area!

I dunno, I have a 7 foot roost for 10 birds (almost all of whom are Speckled Sussex, pretty good sized) and it works just fine. No spare room, but no fighting.

To be safe it would certainly be better to have more like 1' per hen though. Ideally all at the same height -- if you have a lower and a higher roost, even if there is plenty total space they'll just argue about who gets to sit in first class

Hello...you might try stacking the roosting poles for more room in a small area?? Just an idea
