Howdy all,
I have a quick question about roosting up and nesting boxes, weird combo I know.
My nesting boxes stick into the coop a bit so there's a slight ledge above the opening to the nesting boxes. My chickens are always roosted up at night when I lock them up but I have noticed that, at some point,They are getting on top of the ledge and are roosting up there or something.
Is this going to be a problem when they start laying ( they're 14 weeks)? How do I stop it?
Thanks for any and all advice!

How do you know they're roosting there? Are you finding poo on top of the boxes?
Once chickens go to roost and its dark, they don't move unless they have a reason to (like if something is getting after them).

I wouldn't worry about it unless they're actually sleeping in them and making a mess of the boxes. If its just on top, you can scrape it off with the rest of the dookie when you clean the coop out :)

There is poop on top of there. I don't think they go over there until early in the morning, right before I let them out for the day.

Right now the nesting boxes are blocked off until they get to laying age. My only concern is if they hop up there while someone is in the nesting box!

Mine get on top of the nest boxes too. Whenever someone's laying, they don't seem to mind. Sometimes the other birds will gather in front and watch too :)
