Roosts for the Chicken McMansion (Part 6)

Not bad Opa...that makes perfect sense, and I will keep this in mind for a design mod down the road. I put this all together with gold screws, and it would actually be quite easy to take this apart and rebuild it when that time comes. I can disassemble and remove the entire roost in less than 15 minutes. You gave me some good numbers to work with, so I will start a new page in the sketchbook and noodle out how to do exactly what you suggest.

Thanks!

You could also lessen the angle at which the dropping board is mounted. Just a note, I hope you don't think I was being critical, I admire how well built and thought out your coop is. Great job.

Looks great! but ya, chickens seldom do what you would think they will do. they will be any which way on the roost.

just an off topic comment. I thought it was funny when I started to read your post.
The weather here has been in the fifties, breezy with the occasional shower

. Hummmm sounds a lot like here.... in Vancouver... lol.

I don't think you're being critical at all Opa, I really do appreciate your ideas and I am grateful for the feedback. I'm going to give what I have a shot of course to see how it performs, but I need to have plan B in my pocket just in case. I've found over the years that it is always best to have another set of eyes look things like this over, because there is always a better idea about how to do something like this.

Frankly, if I did not want any criticism I would never have put so many pictures of it up. The fact I do post these pictures is because I want to hear some ideas on how to make this coop better, as well as pointing out if I am doing anything that might not be good for the chooks. This site has kept me from reinventing the wheel in any number of ways and I appreciate all of the feedback from everyone.

Bumping up for review. The chooks finally inaugurated the roost and the slanted poop board yesterday, and so far they approve...

It's raining pretty good out there tonight, but everyone is on the roost and I had to try and get a pic...these aren't the greatest, but it gives you an idea where the roost is positioned in relation to the windows. When they are roosting you can see them clearly....

They still nestle down in the litter at night, but they are getting more and more interested in the roost, and in a few weeks they will probably be up there every night.

I DO love it when a plan comes together....
