So not doing enough research I bought this coop. These are pictures from a few months ago when we purchased it. Since we've moved the girls to a large yard area and the coop sits within that. As the girls have started to lay I realized that I need to change their roosts b/c they are sleeping in one nesting box & laying in the other. There are 4 hens, 3 are Production Reds/RIR's (not true RIR but that's what they told us when we purchased them.) And one small bantam (old english game) So there seems to be plenty of room, but I'm just not sure how to modify this coop. I don't want the roosts to be too high & honestly it doesn't open on the sides anyway so it seems difficult to construct.
Should I continue to try to change the girls behavior or do you think I should try to fix or buy another coop?

these are pictures when the were babies - aren't they cute?

Its really totally up to you - if it doesn't bother you to have them sleep in a nestbox, there's no reason to change it. It is nice that they are not laying in the same box they are sleeping in, as the main reason to try to train them off sleeping in the nest box is to avoid getting poop all over the eggs. It sounds like they are doing a good job of keeping the two functions separate so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Now, if you ever want to expand your flock, or find that they do start to sleep in the nest box, then you might need to change something. Cute coop and flock!

Oh awesome! I feel better about this. I do have to clean out the side they sleep in, but not the egg laying side! Funny how those cuties just know:) I am beyond happy with our girls! They've gotten so big and are so cute! Thank you for the compliment. I'm constantly doing research trying to make sure they are the happiest they can be. I never knew I'd love a chicken!!! :) Thanks for the info!
