Roosts??

Question regarding the roost. I have heard a variety of answers to this, and I’m not sure if there is a reason for one over the other or if it is just personal preference.

Is it better to make your roosts round or flat like the wide end of a 2x4?

Also, is 3 feet off the roost floor too high for them to jump/fly up to ?

About an inch round I believe is best because they can wrap their feet around

Roosts can be flat or round. Aim for 2" or more diameter if round. If flat, either the narrow or wide side can work.

Most breeds can make it up to 3' no problem. Heavier breeds or birds like Silkies that can't really fly, would need lower roosts or alternative ways of getting up there.
