roosts

Hi all---I'm in the process of building my coop and have constructed a droppings pit. On top of said pit are 2x2s set about 18 inches apart--do these 2 x 2's count as 'roosts'? In other words, I allotted 10 inches per bird for an actual roosting bar, but it's possible that i'll get more female chicks than I was expecting--so can I count these perpendicular droppings-pit 'roosts' towards the total I should allow for roosts? (I rounded off the edges and made them removable for easy cleaning).

Chickens like to be as high as they can; the poor birds who won't have room to get up onto your "main" roost will be unhappy to be down lower, not to mention won't they get pooped on from the chickens above?
