Roosts???

Hey Everybody,

I'm getting my coop set up for my chicks and I'm trying to decide how to make my roosts... any suggestions?
I was thinking of trying to find untreated fence posts.. but that is proving to be difficult.
So what have you found that works for roosts??

I found dowel rods at Goodwill, 2 for $2. I put them up using closet rod hangers but my 16 week old chicks refuse to roost. They all huddle on the floor still.

two by fours are the most reasonable choice for roosts. they can be easily cut to size and their width ( they should be placed with the wide side up ) is beneficial because it helps keep the chickens toes flatter allowing their breast feathers to cover their feet when roosting. ( this is imperative in areas with cold winters)

thanks, i hadn't considered 2 by 4s cause i read that the roosts should be round... but i don't remember the reason, maybe i should double check that cause 2 by 4s would be simpler as long as they are ok for the chickens
