Roses (the flowers)

I've tried rose cuttings but haven't had any luck. Hostas won't grow here because I have no shade. My trees aren't big enough yet for shade. The trees have only been in the ground 4 years and some less than that. The Eucalyptus I planted when they were about a foot tall are now about 12 feet. Some of them grew 7 feet the first year.

I like the idea of a cutting swap. I like the English roses also but maybe that's because I'm English by birth. Where we lived before I had four David Austin roses and I'd like to get some for here. I'd have to check and see if they could tolerate our climate.

you know, if you go to the David Austen website, they list roses that would be suitable for shade, drought, heat, cold, etcl. Ill bet you could find something that would work in your garden....ok here are some of my roses, at least the ones that the goat hasnt gotten to yet....

this is called Mary Rose, I believe a David Austen, I got it because of the name!

This is my Iceberg rose going crazy with blooms, its very reliable, even grew back after my horse at it 3 times!

a miniature tree rose, dont know the name, but its pretty!

I couldnt get any pics of my hybrid teas, they were looking great last week, but its been very cold and windy lately, and these are the only ones left.

Love those photos of the roses. Same goes with my roses, they don't look as good as they did last week. In fact after the storm yesterday I'm surprised there are any blooms left. Can you believe it.....there is snow on the Sierras just off my front porch and it was only 39 when I got up this morning. The strong winds have died down though but we had a few sprinkles and it's still cloudy. Every once in a while I see a patch of blue. This is the end of May for heavens sake. I even had to turn the heater bacvk on. We've been having temps in the 80's and 90's. Some spring...............

This is no spring! Lots of snow in Sierras up here too, heater back on, cold windy days, should be high 80s, 90s here too! Must be the whole state thinks it in March.....my seeds dont want to sprout either!

The weatherman says more of the same for this coming week, mainly Wed. and Thurs. Oh! My! The wind finally died down for now. It will probably set back the plants a bit. My peas are doing good though. I picked a bowl full this afternoon and there are more coming.

Back to 80s this coming weekend,

I wish I had planted peas! I will be wishing for this weather when its 110 in the shade....

Me too! It does get hot here in the high desert. No wind this morning and I don't have to go to work so I can spend some time outside working on the chicken pen extension and maybe get some plants in the ground. I buy plants from a gardening club and they have two sales a month during spring. The plants are locally grown so already adjusted to our climate and soil. They're trees, bushes perenial plants and cactus and some bulbs and herbs. I've never lost any I've bought and the price is right. Well, off to the garden. Have a great day.
