thanks for the Heirloom Roses suggestion, I will check that out!
btw, if you havent tried coffee grounds, youre in for a surprise, my nursery specialist friend told me it works because it makes the soil more acidic....well my sweet peas were straggly as always, planted them in the fall. Then I added coffee grounds and they woke up and took off, became a beautiful tower of blooms for months.
I did the same on my roses, many ppl here say its their secret. I will have to try the banana peels, hope my dogs dont eat them

They may appear to be dying and may lose their leaves but I bet you'll see new leaves soon. I agree with cutting them back so more roots will develop. Everytime I plant something new I treat it with B-1. You can get it at WalMart and any nursery or Home Depot. Mix it according to directions. It helps prevent shock or if already in shock it helps to bring them out of it. The banana peels provide potassium and the coffee ground work well also. Lots of luck. Let us know how they do.

I finally get to share my roses... my first year of the Don Juan Climbing roses... these LOVE heat and humidity.

i have a question. i see today i have holes in the leaves of some of my rose bushes but i don't see any pests on them.

dh says to put sevin on them so they leave my roses alone but i'm very allergic to sevin dust. last time i used it for chickens barely touching it i had to go to the er by ambulance for chemical burns just because i held a bird he dusted for 2 min till i could put her back in the coop. i'm scared to death to use it now cuz it gave me anifalactic shock(sp). do u have any ideas what maybe cause the wholes and what i can use to help protect my roses that is safe for me to use? i'd say it was probably japanese beetles but i haven't seen any yet this year anywhere so i have no idea. just alot of holes like something is eating them other than that they r healthy and fine.
love any help or ideas u can give me.

Hi, we get these weird cut out circles on our rose leaves, they look like someone used a big hole punch from the edge of the leaf. They are caused by leaf cutter bees, and I dont spray for them, they dont do much damage. I think there are places online you could see pics of what you are describing.
