Here are the latest news stories on our Roswell Chicken battle. Thank you so much for coming out today. Andy said we had a GREAT turn out! Please keep up the emails, phone calls and comments on news posts. They think that just because they postponed the case until May, we will forget about it and there won't be as much media next time. Let's show them... that is not the case!

Thanks for this thread. I am in the next cityover and just had to give up my 2 pet hens to friends. I wonder if the outcome of this case (if ttey wn) will allow me to bring home my pets? Or does each city have their own laws and I would have to fight it again. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or the funds to hire a high profile attorney. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Each city does have their own ordinances for or against poultry, so this Roswell case may not affect your right to have them directly. On the otherhand, if we do win, you can forward your city council members on the news and ask them to reconcider their laws. Get a petition started. Be proactive in your own backyard. We will all support you. Keep us updated! If you live in GA, check out the Atlanta Pet Chicken Meetup group. The link is below. They have very active members and are working on changing the laws so everyone can own chickens in their backyard if they want to.

Good Luck!

It always concerns me when a government outlaws something because of what was, perhaps a small number of people that object to someting. As a motorcyclist, I sometimes have to deal with communities that ban motorcycles, due to a perception of menace, such as noise and agressive driving... yet these same communities have no laws against noisy cars or agressive car operators in general. As a backyard chicken owner, I can certainly understand that my neighbors don't care to smell checken poop, or have roosters screeching all day long, but a well cared for, fairly quiet small flock makes no more noise or odor than the poorly cared for dogs that are penned up and running loose all over this town. The all night barking is terrible, and the day seldom goes by that I don't have to clean up a dog turd off of my front lawn. BTW, I have a dog too, he lives in the house as a member of the household, and I always clean up after him... the responsibility of any pet owner! So there!!!

I'm in woodstock, Let me know the date if you need another body to show up in support. I work at the Publix store at Rucker. It would be no problem to show up at the court house, if I had fair warning. I always love meeting other chicken people. Fortunatly I have a neighbor who has cows, so they can't say much about my girls. I hope that it goes well.
