A week or so ago I rescued a chicken I found walking along a busy street in Los Angeles. Turns out I had a great space for her at my office (there is a chicken coop there).

Well, it took a week as I've learned from you all and gotten used to the idea of having chickens. But yesterday Lissalischicks (who I met on this site) and I went to go get Rosy some companions. Two other hens, a Wyandotte and an Australorp about her same age. The two new hens are sweet and gentle. Rosy is a game hen of some kind. Very smart. Kind of plucky. :p

The introduction went a bit rocky at first so Rosy got separated into a different enclosure. (the area has an empty aviary as well). OMG did she protest! Once she realized she was going to be away from the new chickens she cried and struggled to get the door open. (she's very smart, as I said).

Once I got a dog run set up in the chicken run area to separate her she calmed down. But when I came back in the evening to check on them, she'd gotten out and was cuddled up to the Wyandotte and sleeping. The Australorp is smaller than the other two and very afraid but such a sweetie. I had them on the roost together last night then separated them again before dawn. The other two were snuggled together when I got there, but Rosy was playing watch dog and keeping an eye on things. But not attacking them at that time..

We'll see how this goes. It was really clear how lonely she'd been.

Wish me luck!!!!!
