Rouen all of a sudden cant walk

I have a pair of rouens and a Guardian goose. All of a sudden today one of the rouens was in her pool and I noticed not able to follow her flock. Checked on her and she cant stand or walk. I put her on some straw in the coop but she keeps trying to walk so I placed her back where she had put herself in the pool and brought the other two in the run to be with her. She is just sitting there and seems to be opening and shutting her beak more than nornal. I don't know how to help her. Beginner duck owner and have had great luck up until now. Help....;(

when did she last lay an egg is it possible she could be egg bound?

You can give her 1ml calcium gluconate to speed things along and move the egg out if that is the problem- won’t hurt to try the calcium even if that’s not the problem- a human calcium with d3 pill also can work-

you can bring her inside and put her in a warm bath when it comes time to lock up for the night if you maybe don’t want to leave her in the coop with the others until you figure out what’s going on…

yes egg bound can cause lameness because it can press against the nerve and paralyze the leg temporarily

Thank you! I don't have anywhere open tonight to get calcium gluconate but I can try some human calcium. Do I dilute it or just try and get her to eat it? I can try a warm bath (just let her soak?) and will keep her by herself over night then. I will add they did just start laying. Have about 6 eggs from the 2 girls. One weird egg was rubbery and odd. Maybe it is an egg issue? I sure hope she'll be ok. I appreciate your help!

check for some injuries.. maybe something pricked on her footpad i would give some multivitamin for ducks and probiotics and watch her

Doesn't appear to be hurt anywhere or tender. She let's me feel her bottom and belly. All seems OK. I have know ides what I'm feeling for tho. She seems ok other than can't walk or stand. I have her in a warm bath now.

It is an all flock feed. Pellet or crumble, I've used both. I hadn't had oysters shells out for them, I do for the chickens. Shoot....I'll be sure to out it out fie then too. She has been in a warm bath for about 40 minutes. She does seem to be moving her tail feather area. How long can I keep her in it. How long would an stuck egg take to resolve? Anything more I can do for her? She is drinking the warm water too.

the liquid calcium gluconate works the fastest maybe you can get some tomorrow they sell it at Feed stores like TSC. The human calcium is OK use the calcium citrate with D3 if you have it and you can actually use a Tums it’s made of calcium lol whatever you use I would give a second dose first thing in the morning if she hasn’t passed the egg yet it sounds like that’s probably what it is because of the soft rubber egg it’s just harder for them to get the egg out when it’s soft, because there isn’t enough resistance against their contractions but the calcium supplement helps push it through. I tried leaving my pekin in the bathtub for a couple hours, but she jumped out after a while, which was really stupid because she was in there for a sprained ankle so I wish she didn’t jump out and hurt herself more. I had the same question though I wondered how long can I leave her in there? I guess maybe just a couple hours and then put her in a crate or whatever she’s going to sleep in for the night because I assume you have to sleep too But yeah, egg binding is pretty serious. It can be very serious. let us know how is she doing in the morning .
I am also assuming that you checked her over really well and can’t find any injuries. I was wondering if you have drakes and she could’ve gotten injured during mating. I hope she is better in the morning.

Thanks so much for following up....I'll go in tomorrow asap for the calcium gluconate. I had her in a warm bath for about 2 hours. I checked her over and she was ok everywhere. I will say after the warm bath I felt around her cloaca and definitely saw her respond to that. She flattened out and stretched her legs. Appeared to be uncomfortable....I don't know what to do so I didn't massage much or do alot but did feel like that confirmed it is a bound egg. I just put her back in the coop with dry straw and stacked up for a soft bedding. I feel terrible and hope she'll be ok til I can get some calcium in her. It's helped to hear from this board....i live in a rural area and really dont know where i would go to get help even if it wasnt a weekend where clinics arent open so thanks so much!!
