My Rouen or Rouen mix drake's head has recently grayed out and he's become more mottled on his breast and underside. He was quite green last year once he reached maturity. Is this normal? I've never had ducks before.

He's about 1 year and 4 months old.

I’m not sure but maybe he’s getting eclipse plumage?
Ah, I'm learning (and I googled it). That's what it looks like, just thought it was odd he didn't look like that last summer, but I guess it's because he was young?

That would be my guess as well but I’m still learning too. My drakes are pekins so I don’t see the color change but I’ve read a lot on here about it.

drakes really only have boy colors for mating season after the first year, here is my boy right now compared to last year
