Well I ordered 2 perkins, but everyone said there were very loud and couldnt hatch out eggs.

I can still change my order, and the only other ducks I see that I swap out with are the Rouen duck.

Are these quite? Also will they they go broody and hatch out baby ducks?

Thanks

~Bryan

I love my rouen!! She's such a doll. She is a good bit quiter than my pekin. although the pekin isn't that loud unless I'm out there, she's hungry, or she wants out for the day. I am really glad that I started with pekins and rouens, because they're easy to keep and quite personable. You'll like having them.

I don't think rouens or pekins are "supposed" to go broody, but you never know. It seems that some of the breeds that shouldn't go broody do. My pekin hen just started laying and hasn't shown any interest in sitting.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. The pekins are the favorite around here because when you go out, they'll talk to you. Plus they're chubby looking and waddle a lot, so the DF thinks they're great. My rouen will come up to you and is the queen of the coop. She's a good bit smaller than the pekin, but the drakes get HUGE! Could you split your order and get a couple of each?

I had a rouen drake. Very handsome guy. I sold him so I could concentrate on breeds that lay a lot of eggs. I have never had a rouen hen though. If noise is a big issue, I don't think you can go wrong by switching. This is no guarantee you wont end up with a loud mouth, but pekins are known to be very noisy...much more so than rouens.

Perhaps because I have only ever had muscovies before I got my Rouens. But I find my female rouens extremely loud. My coop is a good 3/4 of an acre away from my house and I hear them regularly. One gets yelling(they sound like an old man with a really obnoxious laugh, HA HA HA HA HA)then the other one starts and then my lone girl mallard starts too. I think they are very loud. My male rouen Jeff is pretty quiet sort of a whispery quack. But nothing beats my 'scovies for quietness.

My rouens are only about 3 months old so I can't answer the broody question. As for noise, my female is quite loud but only when she chooses to speak. Which is no where near as often (or loud) as my mallards.

Well I will be willing to trade u for some Pekin eggs,I have Crested Rouen eggs.My Rouen Drake is Jack,& his mate is Priscilla, she has the most pretty Mop on her head and both are very gentle and will eat out of your hand. She is so sweet when she twatches just for Jack,,lol. My BEIS are the most loudest, but my African Brown Geese takes the cake, they are loudddddd. But it does help to keep predators away.I also have some Crested Kkaki Campbells, and they are laying like crazy. If you are willing to swap a few let me know. But they are very quiete,,,Sandra,NC
