Hi all! I have a group of Rouens that I bred last year. All of the females from that hatching have white rings or partial rings around their necks at maturity. The ducklings this year are varied in color, from standard Rouen colors to mostly black and all black. Is it possible that they are mixed?

From your description, they may be mixed. Could you get pictures of them?

The black is really odd. Black is a dominant trait so it can’t hide. I think the white on the neck is the recessive bibbing allele. It can hide and is found wild mallards and other types. So, I doubt your birds are mixed but you might have a new mutation resulting in the black. Pretty interesting!
