I was wondering how old rouens are before their heads start turning green. also i was wondering if they could fly like wild mallards can? thanks !

I can't remember now when the rouens' heads turn green because it's been four years now since I got my rouens, but I can say rouens definitely can't fly! They're too heavy. They're a nice breed--my two are friendly, pretty, and good ducks.

The deep keeled exhibition type can't fly, but the Production type Rouens do have a limited ability to fly. I have raised them. I have seen approximately 1 year old females fly high enough that they went over ever a 6ft fence several times.

I don't remember exactly. I know this is broad but it's somewhere in the 4 to 6 month range. It doesn't happen quickly either. It starts slowly and takes weeks.

Some rouens fly to some extent, my dad has some that do laps around the run. Exibition rouens are massive, these are commercial meat bird rouens, they look more like a duck and less like a basketball with wings and a head.
