Rough estimate

I just talked to a Chinese Grocer and was told I could not supply the amount he needed on a weekly basis with reliability. His selling price is $1.99/dozen here in Indiana. I live on the country border of Purdue University and of course they have a large Oriental group.

I bought my birds to help my food source. I read an article on Pink Slime and want no part ot it. I want to know where my food comes from. Quail are quick and easy and take no space. The eggs are more dependable that my chicken flock. I can keep the quail caged at all times and they are calm tame birds. I started this experiment in April and now I have 65 birds. I started with 8. If I put the egg in the incubator it hatches. I think this will be a good thing to add to my home grown meat supply.

i hatch and sell quail eggs in my area and get $3 a chick and $2.50 a dozen for eating eggs. i have a lady that comes and buys the eating eggs from me and takes them to a farmers market to sell. i dont know how much she makes but i would have to believe she is making at least $5 a dozen to make it worth the 30 mile drive to the farmers market. so i do believe there is money in quail and eggs but also depends on your area and the demand for them. i have one male and 7 females and will be adding 13 more females and 10 males to my breeding cages i just built. she also told me that there is another lady that sells quail eggs at the market and sell out quick and uses the money to pay for all the feed at her parakeet rescue. i know im not going to get rich off them but the money i have been getting from them has helped me get my new zealand white rabbitry going and a boer goat herd started.
