Round 2... Final results: 5/6 Hatched.

Looks like we are all in the same boat..

And those on day 21 with no pip..that can happen too..sometimes it just takes a day or so later

I have 6/8 pipped now..and nothing else

3 pipped since early today

Come on babies..come to momma

Good luck everyone

I am so new to this so not much advice from me other then my experience so far. I have heard that they can come late. My last batch all pipped on day 20 and hatched on day 21. Except for one that pipped on day 21 and hatched on 22. Got 7/7 on my last hatch and hoping for 6/6 on this one. I have been psychotically watching my temps and humidity but haven't been able to lockdown completely. I staggard my hatch by accident and keep having to add new eggs daily. I just add some hot water to raise humidity do my swaps between eggs going in and chicks coming out and so far have been very lucky. Good luck everyone and keep posting how it goes. Us newbies need to stick together.

Woke up to 2 hatching. That makes 3. 2 more are moving along nicely. I am still scared for that one that pipped on the side. He has made some progress and its still really early though. He just pipped last night.

Only 2 left but they are not hatching as well as the others. One zipped halfway and seems stuck. Has been in the same position for almost 8 hours and the other has some crustyness at the edge of the pip. Can see them both moving and peeping sometimes frantically. Crusty only pipped this am but the other pipped lat night. Anyone know how to intervene if I need to?

I intervened and the one chick is a ok for now. Was fully developed and stuck in the egg. He couldn't turn to pip the rest of it. I crack off some shell and he did the rest in my hand. Had been trying to all along.

Well it's all over till Friday. I have 4 more to hatch then. 5 healthy chicks and 1 loss. Shell was oozing from the pip he had made on the side. After he died we opened it up and found he punctured his yolk sack and pulled out what I can only guess was intestine. Note to self... never open dead chick shell. I don't think I will ever recover from that scene. Going to bury him and cry myself to sleep.

I didn't open any of my eggs that didn't hatch, just the thought is traumatizing. Enjoy the healthy little fuzzies you've got, and get some good sleep. You'll feel better in the morning. Hatching is emotionally exhausting.

It is total emotionally exhausting. I sat with my healthy little fuzzies for a long time after. The chick I helped crawled into my hand and went to sleep. It was so sweet. Want to mark him so I know which one made it because of me. That little one is getting a place in our coop. I am so tired. Between 2 hatches and sick kids I need a stiff drink and an ambien. lol Get to do this all over again on Friday. 4 more eggs in this staggered hatch. Never making that mistake again. After this I have 2 more hatches... March 30 and April 12. Then I am done till next year. Overall been an amazing experience and one out of 13 isn't such a bad start considering the multitude of mistakes I have made. Still, I don't handle loss well. Don't ever think that will get easier but I will keep going.

Bless your heart..get some sleep..

My one egg that pipped now for 28 hours..was oozing something too..finally I decided to work on the shell, still alive, but too much blood, wrapped it up and stuck it back in bator..I now also wished..why oh why, did I start to help it..nature..let nature do it's thing..their might be a very solid reason why it wasn't progressing on it's own..and I go and help it, and it's not how I planned on it turning out..I helped hatch twice before and never saw blood, this time iam..and now after reading your words..this is the same egg, that pipped and had oozing from it..

Well, iam off to sleep too,

Get some rest and enjoy the ones you do have...wink and smile and sending u hugs

Thanks. I crashed last night. First solid night sleep since friday. All my fuzzies are doing well. Running around and playing. My boyfriend is going to help me bury the little guy tonight under our apple tree.

Hope your little guy makes it.
