Installing a roosting pole I'm coop today. Should i use round or square. Thanks for the help. I have all kinds of old broom handles i was gonna use

That's an interesting question. I'm not sure if it matters or not. I have round branches in the run but roosts in the coop are square. They seem to like both.

I have round in my bantam coop and 2x4's, flat side up, for the LF coop.. My opinion is the flat 2x4 is the best. They are able to maneuver around each other (on top of, underneath.etc.) as they jockey for sleeping spots each night. Another bonus is in the winter as they are perching they sit on their feet and fluff out, keeping feet warm. My bantams do not have any trouble on their round (tomato stakes mounted across their coop) but I prefer the other way having used both.

I guess they liked the broom handle idea. Ha
